Joe McGuire’s admiration for design was formed in his earliest years, growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where his family owned the esteemed hotel, Rancho Encantado. When he wasn’t earning his keep lugging suitcases, Joe was inspired by the celebrity guests such as Elizabeth Taylor and Ralph Lauren (who is believed to have conceived his famous Western aesthetic during his many visits to the beautifully appointed hotel). It was an elegant setting, where creative types came together and were energized by the environment and each other.
Years later, Joe left for the East Coast, to study art history and literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Afterward, he found employment in New York City at Christie’s auction house, where he coordinated appraisals and traveled the country with the company’s art and furniture experts, assessing some of the most beautiful and lavish houses and apartments in America.
Fifteen years ago, Joe began his own interior design practice, eventually founding his own company, Joe McGuire Design, in 2005. He was pronounced one of Aspen’s top modern designers in a cover article in Aspen Magazine in 2008. For his Aspen clientele, he has furnished downtown penthouses, fine homes in the West End, expansive lodges on Red Mountain, and a grand cabin on North Star Preserve.
Today, with his unique talent for creating warm, serene, uncluttered spaces that vividly reflect the personal style of his clients, Joe is designing homes and commercial spaces at some of the most prominent addresses in Aspen, Denver and Boulder.
